We had two members of our club, Lauren Robertson & Jack Hickey, travel to Beijing in September to compete for Australia at the ITU World Championships. Both athletes did Gunnedah very proud, achieving excellent results.
Lauren Robertson was the only Australian Triathlete at the Championships to bring home two gold medals. Lauren came first in her age group, 35-39yrs, in the Aquathlon event, her second gold world title in this event. The first day of racing, at 12 noon, meant very hot, very humid conditions. The water temp was 26 degrees.
A few days later, Robertson had the race of her life to win gold in the Olympic distance triathlon, finishing 27 seconds ahead of second place American, Krista Hensall.

Jack Hickey's 12th place reflected the quality field of athletes in the Junior Men - Elite. Hickey had a great race. An impressive swim assured him a spot in the lead bike pack. Hickey made several attempts to break away in the cycle leg, but this very tough course made this a difficult choice. It all came down to the run leg.
